Established in 1928 at Wigram airfield, the Canterbury Aero Club has a long and proud history of introducing people from all walks of life to sport and recreational flying. If you are interested in flying an aeroplane, getting your private pilot's license or going further, you can, at the Cantebury Aero Club.

Our Club is based at Christchurch International Airport and is New Zealand's largest Aero Club.

The facilities we provide to members are world class and include our own private airfield at West Melton, for the exclusive use of members providing us with an area for training or flying, away from the busy commercial airport when necessary.

We also provide flying and flight training from Rangiora airfield in a more relaxed country environment.

Christchurch

Christchurch International Airport is the second largest airport in New Zealand and is fully equipped to international standards.

Canterbury Aero Club members have a unique opportunity to be exposed to a busy controlled aviation environment. The experience gained flying at Christchurch Airport gives CAC trained private pilots the experience and confidence to fly into any certified airport in New Zealand.

West Melton

Our West Melton airfield, just 6 minutes flying from Christchurch, is reserved for the exclusive use of the Canterbury Aero Club. This provides an area for our members to train in as well as a base to fly our club aircraft from privately.

West Melton has regular flight training and private hire available daily with instructors and aircraft standing by. Our welcoming clubhouse and 6-runway airfield are proudly maintained by our members. West Melton provides an excellent place to hold regular social events where members make new friends and compare flying experiences. Families and friends are also very welcome.

Rangiora

Rangiora (just 12 minutes flying from Christchurch) is a very active airfield that provides our North Canterbury members with an excellent base to fly from and socialise. Regular flight training takes place on Saturday and Sundays, or by demand at other times.

The clubrooms are located halfway along the airfield road and are famous for the open fire, social atmosphere and relaxed environment.
